Environment and Sustainability Background
The construction industry is vastly significant to both the economy and the environment with its estimated output worth over £100bn a year. Taking into account the growing shortage of raw materials of one of the biggest challenges the world has ever seen in climate change it is staggering to consider that the UK construction industry is responsible for 6 tonnes of building materials per head of population each year and an estimated 122 million tonnes of waste, or 30% of the total arising in the UK.
Despite these figures being so staggeringly worrying many companies within the industry are now taking a strategic approach to sustainable construction, Longworth are proud to add their name to this list and be known as a company that proactively considers the environment from tender stage right through to job completion.
